Life Beyond Teaching

I strongly believe that there is a richness that a teacher can bring into their classroom when they live a life of travel. Of course, personally, my definition of travel has had to include a more national travel approach thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Being a tourist in my own country has given me a deeper sense of pride in the history my country has to offer and has allowed me to bring these experiences to the classroom with first-hand experience – something all learners love. As I continue to find ways to travel the world with all the regulations around the pandemic I will share with you the wonderful things I have seen and learnt from traveling Malawi.

Moving to the UAE posts

Asia

UAE- Adu Dhabi

Like the majority of the world before Tik Tok and its wealth of knowledge, I sat in a little corner of the world known as Malawi thinking that Dubai was a country. Look, I can be honest and I have no problem being able to admit how far my knowledge of the world went. My view in life is that when you know what you don’t know, you become intentional in knowing what you don’t know- a Ms Chirwa philosophy I guess

UK

IOW - Isle Of  Wight UK

The Isle of Wight is located just off England’s southern coast. It has a rich tapestry of natural beauty and historical landmarks. One of the first attractions on my list was the iconic Needles, a series of chalk stacks rising dramatically from the sea. The panoramic views from this vantage point were awe-inspiring.

Europe

France- Europe

“Everyone dreams of living in Paris”  Those are the famous words of Natalie Portman. In my case living in Paris was a rather far fetched goal. Visiting it however, now that was much more attainable. Probably at the top of my life list was the vision of me someday walking through the streets of Paris. In my mind, the phrase was “Everyone dreams of visiting Paris- and one day you will”.

Africa

Kenya- first trip- Africa

As a nervous Malawian teacher and a newly single mom, the decision to travel to Kenya for a teaching course was both exhilarating and daunting. The idea of leaving Malawi for the first time brought a mix of excitement and anxiety, amplified by the responsibility of navigating the journey.

Moving to Abu Dhabi has been amazing. We have spent the last 24 months getting our minds around the city. I am excited to take advantage of how accessible the world is from this part of the world. I intend to fuel my sense of wanderlust- well of course in the capacity my passport and visa applications will allow me.

Nature is my sanctuary, and I am captivated by the outdoors. The gentle rustle of leaves, the soothing sound of waves crashing on the shore, and the invigorating scent of the earth right after it rains—these are the elements that rejuvenate my soul. I find peace in immersing myself in the wonders of nature, whether it's strolling along the sandy beaches or hiking amidst picturesque landscapes. The outdoors serves as my refuge, a place where I can connect with the world around me and find serenity amidst the chaos of everyday life.
